A New Book

Web-Large Have you ever considered writing a book? If you’re going to write fiction, you’ll have to write the entire book first. That’s just how it works for 99% of the fiction authors.

Non-fiction is a different story. (Sorry, but I had to say that.) You can write a book proposal and get it accepted by a publishing house. Or, you can find an agent who will take you on as a client. Or, you can write the entire book first.

That’s the route I took. Yes, I just finished my first book. I figured that since I’m always telling my readers that the one of the best ways to market you or your company is to write a book that it was time to take my own advice.

One of the things I learned about writing a book is that having a good editor – no a great editor – is critical to your success. I had the best in Megan Elizabeth Morris.

I don’t know if I would have had a book if it weren’t for Megan. I definitely know it wouldn’t have been anywhere near as good. She organized my rambling thoughts, cleaned up my Ohio Valley grammar, and added her own ideas as we went through page-after-page.

And, she probably read the entire thing a least a dozen times. You ever read a book a dozen times – in a row?

So, my advice to you is this:

  1. Write a book!
  2. Find the best editor in the world.
  3. If it is your first book (and maybe your twenty-first) use someone like Lighting Source International or Lulu to publish it.
  4. Put together a good marketing campaign because even if a major publisher takes it on you are not going to get any marketing.
  5. Find a fantastic designer. I'll tell you more about this in a later post when a new business gets launched.

Why not begin. It might take you six months or even a year. But, once you start you won't want to stop. It is exciting seeing it all come together.

My book, by the way, is called Listen First – Sell Later. My proof was printed yesterday and I'm waiting to hold the first copy in my hands. After I sign off on the proof, it will be listed at all the book sellers like Amazon, Barnes & Noble, etc. And, I'll have a special website just for my readers. It will have a surprise for you.

All this will be happening over the next couple of weeks.

I hope you'll like the book.

I wrote it for you.

  1. Bob, a book, a book, you done birthed a book! (Well, it was probably a bit more comfortable than that.) Really, though, this is what the word “excellent!” was made for. Excellent! Congratulations, and I hope it gets out there and does swimmingly.

  2. Good on you Bob, very exciting for you! Will eagerly await it’s arrival and if it’s anything like your posts, it will be relevant, interesting and logical. Congrats again!
