Do You Know It When You See It?

eye

I was standing at the counter looking into the case when the clerk asked what kind of doughnut I wanted. I joked, “I don’t know what kind, but I’ll know it when I see it.” I know the basics, “glazed or iced, cake or yeast.” I know a jelly doughnut from a lady finger, but I don’t know all the fancy terms or names for all the things bakers create or do with doughnuts. I know what I know. I know what I like, and I know what I want. When I finally pointed to the plump doughnut with the red filling the clerk smiled and said, “Oh! The jelly doughnut with the raspberry filling! Good choice!”

When you’re selling to customers most of them are the same way. They know what they’ve always used, what they’ve always liked and what they want. They may not always know the name, the style or the brand, but they know it when they see it. Take time to make sure they:

  1. Know the name, brand, and style
  2. And reassure them they’ve made a good choice.

It may not seem like much, but you’re reaffirming their selection and anchoring your product in their mind every time they order from you. That’s not only something that leaves them feeling positive every time, it reinforces their commitment to your brand. And that’s a good thing.
