Don’t Take It Personally

Ask 10 people to read the same book, or watch the same movie and then talk about what the most important scene was and you’ll get 10 different answers. People respond to their environment and the people around them based on who they are, not based on who you are. Unless you’ve done something really boneheaded or stupid to incur someone’s wrath, chances are they’re saying “No,” or “Not interested,” or “Go away,” or “This won’t work” based on reasons you have no awareness of.

When people order steak at a restaurant they aren’t “rejecting the chicken, or the tacos or the pizza.” They know what they want and it’s steak, not the vegetable platter. It is the same with sales. They’re not rejecting you. They’re choosing something or someone else. It’s your job to make what you’re offering more delicious than what they chosen. You can’t do that if you’re nursing a wounded ego. So don’t take things personally. Take them as a challenge.
