A Bit About Mike

He and his wife started looking at opportunities in the non-profit realm shortly after they married. They moved from the UK to Nashville to work with a substance abuse program, then to Houston. Mike is on a mission to change lives through entrepreneurship and sustainable social enterprise.

Mike’s Take on Sustainable Social Enterprise

“If you want to make a difference in the lives of others, create a for-profit business and funnel your profits to a non-profit so we can go out and do the mission.” Mike doesn’t want to rely on donations or income from other non-consistent sources. His goal is to build a sustainable, profitable business model to have a consistent income flow for the non-profit. “As a model, it works very well; you just have to be happy with the fact that you are giving your profit away.”

The Gabriel Project

With some local and other global projects, Mike and his team at The Gabriel Project build projects with the focal point around orphaned children, human trafficking, and domestic violence issues worldwide. “We work in partnership with organizations that reach out to these people.” When choosing projects, Mike tries to balance out domestic and international work with children and victims. “Since there’s a little more bang for your buck overseas, we can do more larger-scale things internationally.”

Listen in as we talk about the future of The Gabriel Project, what projects Mike plans on funding in the near future, and how the non-profits they work with are making a difference in the world. Learn how Mike’s non-profit brings value to people worldwide and how they teach people entrepreneurship that works with the resources in their community.
