Networking Has Jumped the Shark

Are you relying on networking for building your business? Lots of small companies and salespeople have used it as their number one tactic in the last 10 years. I think networking has "jumped the shark" for most of you.

What I see with networking is the same people telling the same story over and over again to the same people. Somehow that feels like one of the definitions of insanity to me. You know – keep doing the same thing and expecting different results.

Plus networking is extremely time sucking. While you are preparing to network, driving to the meeting, attending the meeting and driving back to the office; you could have put together a podcast or conducted a webinar or teleseminar for prospects and clients.

Then you would be networking with people who want to hear what you have to say and who have no agenda of their own other than learning.

Don't know how to podcast or put on your own webinar? There are lots of ways to learn from searching for the terms and learning yourself to buying books on the subject to asking/hiring someone who has done it for help. Maybe you can even barter. They'll show you how to put together a podcast or webinar and you can provide them with some of your services or products.

So which do you want to do?

Talk and be seen?

Or, build real relationships with customers who value you and your company?

Talk about insanity!
